SPECIAL NOTICE: Recycling of Paper Products:
Please note, due to the Lexington Recycling Center temporarily suspending the recycling of paper, City of Versailles residents are being asked to not put paper items in with their recycling until further notice.
Paper that is put in recycling will be routed to the landfill from the Recycling Center. This policy is expected to last several months. Residents are encouraged to continue to recycle dry corrugated cardboard, plastic screw-top bottles and jugs, clean glass bottles and jars, and clean aluminum and steel cans.
The City of Versailles and its contracted trash hauler, Central Kentucky Hauling, belong to a group comprised of several area cities and counties that utilize the Lexington Recycling Center. The Lexington Recycling Center is pursuing new outlets that will accept all paper products.
City ordinance requires every residential and commercial location to have garbage pick-up. Central Kentucky Hauling is the exclusive garbage collection contractor for all Versailles residential customers. Versailles residents living inside the city limits of Versailles will have residential garbage collection through Central Kentucky Hauling and will be signed up for service when they sign up for water/sewer service. The charge for residential garbage will be on the utilities bill. If you have questions regarding your service, you may contact Central Kentucky Hauling at 859-225-2521. If you have questions about your bill, please contact our utilities office at 859-873-5437. Any additional garbage pick-up questions can be directed to Paul Simmons, Assistant Public Works Director, at 859-873-2245 Ext. 124, or by email at
Recycling is picked up in the city limits by Central Kentucky Hauling the same day your trash is collected.
When you place your trash and recycling containers at the curb be sure they are at least 6 feet apart so drivers can easily identify materials for collection. All recycling containers should be clearly marked facing the road.
Please recycle responsibly. The materials that are accepted at the recycling center are plastic screw top bottles, plastic screw top jugs, glass bottles, glass jars, aluminum cans, steel cans and dry cardboard. Do not bag recyclables. Always breakdown cardboard boxes. Bundle and tie them if you have a large quantity. PLEASE REMEMBER: Do not bag recyclables! The Lexington Recycling Center does not accept bagged recyclables because plastic bags clog and disable their equipment. They will fine the City of Versailles if we take bagged recyclables to their facility.
Unfortunately, if you put out bagged recyclables, they will be taken to the landfill. Thank you for your cooperation.
If you have any questions, please call Central Kentucky Hauling.
